Theme: Breaking Procrastination & Closing the Gap
We have arrived at our third and final week of Stage 1: 切 Setsu (The Cut). Over the last two weeks, we deconstructed the mindset of making an absolute decision and weaponized our focus to slice through summer distractions. Now, it’s time to face the sneakiest enemy of any warrior or high achiever: Inertia and Excuses.
In physics, inertia is the tendency of an object to stay completely still until an outside force hits it. In life, inertia shows up as procrastination. It’s that voice that whispers, "I’ll train harder tomorrow," "I’ll start my chores later," or "I'll fill out that worksheet tonight." But tomorrow is where goals go to die. This week, we use the power of the Cut to eliminate the excuses holding us back from our true potential.
The Gap Between Intention and Action
Look out into our lobby this week and take a look at the 2026 Summer Goal Getter Wall. It is rapidly filling up with the names of martial artists who have boldly declared their "Truth in Advance", students who have already committed to exactly what they are going to manifest on the mats by late August.
But if your rank-specific Summer S.M.A.R.T. Goal Worksheet is still sitting completely blank on your kitchen counter, or if you haven’t handed it to your instructor yet, there is a gap.
That gap isn't caused by a lack of talent or a lack of time; it’s caused by letting excuses call the shots. A Black Belt doesn't leave their growth to chance, and they don't wait until they "feel like it" to take action. They strike the mood. They make a definitive cut through hesitation and complete the mission immediately.
Finish Stage 1 Strong
This is our final week to lay a flawless foundation before we transition into the grit and grind of Stage 2: 磋 Sa (The Scrape) next week. Let’s clean the slate, get our goals locked in stone, and push our June BINGO cards to the limit.
The Weekly Challenge: "The Immediate Strike"
🥋 In the Dojo: Zero hesitation in your transitions. When the instructor says "line up," "switch sides," or "give me 10 push-ups," your movement must be explosive. Cut out the extra steps, cut out the heavy sighs, and cut out the adjustment delay. Move with immediate, absolute action.
🏠 At Home: Identify the one task or chore you have been putting off all month. Practice Setsu by attacking it the second you think of it, no procrastinating, no complaining, and no reminders required from your parents (or spouse) 😊. Use this high-energy momentum to check off another major square on your June BINGO card!
