⚔️ Weekly Wisdom: The Secret of the Stone

Most people see a diamond and marvel at its shine. They see a high-ranking Black Belt and marvel at their technique. But they rarely see the friction it took to get there.

This summer, our theme is: Sessa-Takuma. This ancient Japanese phrase describes the four stages of taking a rough, ordinary stone and turning it into a masterpiece:

1.   切 Setsu (Cut): Deciding to start and cutting away the distractions.

2.   Sa (Scrape): The hard work of scraping away bad habits.

3.   Taku (Carve): The detailed work of refining your skills.

4.   Ma (Polish): The relentless effort that finally makes you shine.

The "Friction" Factor

Here is the truth: A stone cannot polish itself. It needs to rub against other stones.

In the dojo, that means we need each other. When your training partner pushes you, they aren't trying to beat you, they are sharpening you. When the workout gets tough and you feel the "friction," that’s not a signal to stop; it’s a sign that you are being polished.

Our goal this summer is simple: We don't just train. We polish our spirit, our discipline, and our character.

⚡️ The Weekly Challenge: "Identify the Rough Edge"

To kick off the summer, I want every student (and parent!) to identify one "rough edge" in their life.

  • Is it a lack of focus?

  • Is it messy technique?

  • Is it a "giving up" mindset when things get hard?

Once you identify it, don't hide it. Bring it to the mat. Let the friction of training this week start the polishing process.

Rise Together. Sharpen Each Other.

In martial arts, we don’t just train the body; we forge the character. The Japanese idiom Sessa-Takuma (切磋琢磨) represents the process of polishing a stone into a jewel—a perfect metaphor for the journey we take at Impact Martial Arts and Team Feidt.
