Shihan Feidt has been training in the Martial Arts since 1982. He has achieved the rank of 6th degree black belt. His whole family is involved in the dojo. His wife is a 4th Degree Elite Force Leader, his daughter is very involved with all the activities, and his son is a Black Belt. Shihan Feidt has many outstanding accomplishments. He has completed the Anthony Robbins fire walk across 25 yards of hot coals. Shihan is 1 of 3 to become part of the Masters Council in CNY. He is also very diverse in his Martial Arts training, he’s a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, certified Level Two Instructor in Arnis, trains in Muay Thai, Kenpo, Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga, Boxing, and Vale Tu Do. Shihan Feidt is also very involved in the community. This past year his dojo has raised over $10,000 for people in need. His dojo participates with the Make-a-Wish foundation, America Heart Association Heart Walks, Relay For Life, as well as the Salvation Army Holiday Drive. He feels, “We make the community better one black belt at a time!

Sensei Jim Munger is a 6th Degree Black Belt and started his trained since 1989.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Sparring & Jiu-Jitsu

 

What are your future aspirations? Grow the Dojo and to fill mornings with class when most dojo are closed. 

 

What was your favorite training moment? The whole team being behind me when I achieved my current rank. I couldn’t and wouldn’t have gotten my belt without their support.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Bo Staff

 

What other sports or activities do you do? I love spending time with family here and at camp whenever I can. Going on motorcycle trips or any kind of trips with my wife just to see new things.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? The start of a journey. When I was going for my 1st Black Belt I thought that was the goal, but I realized that it was just the start of the journey that I know I can continue for the rest of my life.

 

What is your favorite quote? ” Family isn’t an important thing, it’s everything”

Any additional information you want to share? My wife and I now have 3 generations of Black Belts in our family and are still going strong. My son is a 5th degree Black Belt, Sensei and school owner. Both of my daughters are Black Belts and my oldest grandson is a Black Belt. I also have a granddaughter who is on the verge of achieving her Black Belt and two more grandsons starting out on their journeys. I look back to when I started, not even knowing if I was going to continue, and see my family achieve so much makes me very thankful.

I have started a program for Special Needs adult to be able to take martial arts classes that has grown from 4 students for over 40. I am looking forward to continuing to develop this program

Sensei Dave Baker is a 5th Degree Black Belt and started his trained since 1994.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Krav Maga, Sparring and Arnis

What are your future aspirations? Build the Krav Maga program along with our Martial Arts program so it's the premier place to go for self defense.

 

What was your favorite training moment? Training with my friends and family and achieving goals with them.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Nunchaku

 

What other sports or activities do you do? Family is a big part of my life, being outdoors, video gaming.

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? It was a goal I always wanted to achieve. It gave me a feeling of accomplishment, and made me start on a healthy fulfilling lifestyle.

What is your favorite quote? ” That which is most essential, is invisible to the eye."

 

Any additional information you want to share?  My family participated in the martial arts, my wife achieving her second degree and both of my kids got their high-red belts. Families that kick together, stick together!

Sensei Jim McGarvey is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started his training in 1988.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? I think what makes our system so great is being able to train in many styles. I love the traditional style of Kenpo, the intensity and effectiveness of Krav Maga, the flow of Jiu Jitsu, while Arnis is another one of my favorites for its weapons handling.

 

What are your future aspirations? Continue to train and develop my skills along with helping students grow and accomplish their goals as well. I have a passion for the Martial Arts lifestyle and would like to make it even more a part of my life - both personally and professionally.

 

What was your favorite training moment? There are many. I would say one of my favorites happened recently when my wife Leslie and I were able to perform on stage together during my 4th Degree Black Belt Graduation.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Currently Kamas, but Bo and Sword are a close second.

 

What other sports or activities do you do? Running, working out, SCUBA diving, boating, travel, hiking, concerts, video games, music, and more!

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? It not only gave me a huge boost in confidence and feeling of accomplishment it fired me up to continue my training, set new goals, and push for higher levels of excellence.

Any additional information you want to share? Like so many who live the Martial Arts lifestyle I am thankful for the training I receive, the people I can help because of my training, the lifelong friendships I have developed, and the positive impacts it has had on my life both mentally and physically.

Mr. Mark Cardone is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started his training in 1986.

What are your future aspirations? To continue to use the leadership and life management tools I learned through martial arts training to have a positive impact on people in their personal and professional lives. 

 

What was your favorite training moment? Every moment!

What other sports or activities do you do? I love spending time being active with my two daughters. I am active in the Liverpool School District PTO, I serve on the board for Edge Federal Credit Union, own a commercial real estate company, and co-own a personal results company called Achieve Results NOW!

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? The only thing I remember thinking when I received my 1st degree black belt was “Oh Boy!  Now I am going to learn some super cool stuff.”  It really signified taking a step into a leadership role.

Deshi Ryan Meyers is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started his training in 1999.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Kenpo for sure.

 

What are your future aspirations? I want to own my own Dojo some day.

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? it meant that if I set my mind to a goal I can achieve anything. It also showed that hard work pays off.

Deshi Micheala Baratta is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started her training in 2004.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Jiu-jitsu


What are your future aspirations? Outside of the dojo, I am studying to become a speech therapist. Inside of the dojo, I would like to work my way up to earning the title of Deshi, then Sensei. I
also want to earn my 5th degree black belt, and my purple belt in jiu-jitsu.


What was your favorite training moment? When I was told that I was invited to receive my first degree black belt; I had never worked that hard for anything, and I knew that I earned it—my mother,
other family members, and instructors helped me a lot, but I would not have earned my belt if I didn’t work hard. No one earned my black belt for me, and I knew that.


What is your favorite weapon? Nunchuks! Ever since brown belt, I have always loved using chuks.


What other sports or activities do you do? I used to play soccer, lacrosse, and participated in dance, and Girl Scouts. Currently, I am part of Le Moyne College’s undergraduate class of 2018, and have been interning under a speech therapist throughout my senior year, as well as working as a Teaching Assistant at Elmcrest Children’s Center.

Mrs. Heather Losi is a 3rd Degree Black Belt and started her training in 1999 with us and 1992 at her first Dojo.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Krav Maga and Muay Thai Kickboxing

 

What are your future aspirations? I am currently preparing to train for 4th degree Black belt.  I am continuing to work toward certification in Krav Maga and I hope to work toward Krav Instructor Certification.  Outside the dojo, I am working toward a doctorate degree.

 

What was your favorite training moment?  Anytime I am training is my favorite!  I enjoy the variety; I can go from karate to Krav Maga to sparring.  It keeps my training fun and eventful.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Kamas

 

What other sports or activities do you do? Like most Mom’s, I am really busy!  I have a beautiful and active family, I work full-time, run a business, teach martial arts and am enrolled in school full-time.  Outside of that I am a musician, like to craft and get together with friends.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you?  Earning 1st degree brought a strength and confidence that I didn’t know I had!  Now as I look at training for 4th degree I can’t imagine where I would be in my life without the strength I get from my training.

What is your favorite quote? "A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quit."  I truly believe in constant and never ending improvement.  In some respects, I don’t think we ever stop being a White Belt; there is always something to learn.

Mrs. Victoria Baratta is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started her training in 2005.

What's your favorite Martial Arts Discipline? Krav Maga

 

What are your future aspirations? Currently in training for my 4th degree black belt and I teach Krav Maga. I would like to work toward my black belt in Krav. I also have my own business outside the dojo and would like to see that business grow and thrive.

 

What is your favorite training moment? I love training both Krav and karate - every moment training with this awesome team is great! However, my most favorite moments are those when I am able to make that connection with a student and help them achieve the goals they set for themselves.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Elbows and knees!

 

What other sports or activities do you do? I work as a repair technician for Apple – so I am a bit of a geek, I ride a motorcycle, shoot guns and a compound bow, I run a business, I’m a busy mom and wife, I’m on the board of directors of Charity for Children, Inc., I remain active in my community and my role as a retired police officer, and I play the saxophone.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? I was an older candidate when I achieved my first degree. It was a difficult journey, but it showed me that even as I age, I am still able achieve any goal that I set for myself. Any other obstacle I confront is small and insignificant.

Ms. Donalea Maloney is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started her training in 2006.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? I don’t have a “favorite” what I love is that we have a blended system so we get to learn, practice lots of different disciplines. I do enjoy muay thai and anything we do that involves self-defense.

 

What are your future aspirations? At this time I want to train and earn my 4th degree black belt and to continue to help other martial art students achieve their goals that they have set for themselves.

 

What was your favorite training moment? Wow, I have a few favorite moments! The one that stands out the most at this time was when my daughter, Jordyn had her hand raised as the winner in her first muay thai fight.

 

What is your favorite weapon? Chuks

 

What other sports or activities do you do? I love to play golf, travel and enjoy down time; scrapbook – I love photos.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you? It was a huge sense of accomplishment, I was very proud to have set a goal and achieved that goal in 3 years, it was just the beginning of a whole new world for me as an adult and realizing my potential in the fitness world and being able to help motivate others to achieve their goals.

What is your favorite quote?  "Live every moment, Laugh every day & Love beyond words."

 I am thankful that martial arts came into my and Jordyn’s life. Martial Arts has helped us both become better athletes and people. We have made lifelong friends at the dojo and I would not want to be anywhere else.

Mr. Michael Koch is a 4th Degree Black Belt and started his training in 1992.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Krav Maga

 

What are your future aspirations? Getting my Black Belt in Krav Maga and continue to grow in the martial arts as a student and instructor.

 

What was your favorite training moment?  When I broke my first brick in the martial arts.

What is your favorite weapon? Sword

 

What other sports or activities do you do? I enjoy riding motorcycles and going to car shows.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you?  It was a very proud moment for me. It proved to me that I can accomplish anything when I work hard enough.

Mr. Koch is one of our Krav Maga Instructor and is a certified Black Belt from Krav Maga Alliance and a Level 2 Instructor.

Ms. Emma Meyers is a 2nd Degree Black Belt and started his training in 2010.

What's your favorite Martial Arts discipline? Kenpo

 

What are your future aspirations? At the dojo, I want to continue through the ranks and overall become more knowledgeable. Outside the dojo, after I graduate high school, I want to go to college and hopefully study business and one day open my own.

 

What was your favorite training moment?  Being told I was getting my 1st degree Black Belt. I truly believe that it was one of the happiest moments in my life.

What is your favorite weapon? Chuks

 

What other sports or activities do you do? II play softball for my school and on a travel team. I am also in a club called DECA.

 

What did achieving 1st degree Black Belt mean to you?  It really meant so much. First of all, it really showed me that I can do anything that I put my mind to and that anything is possible. I also believe it set off a sequence of events that has made me who I am today.

What is your favorite quote? "Stand up. Arms out. Let it fly." This is something that was written on an index card and I found it in one of my bags. I use it all the time and it is up for interpretation. 

 

Although I am still very young, Martial Arts has been something that has influenced me for most of my life. It provides discipline and structure that can be used in school and other activities. The dojo is a place that inspires me and pushes me to be better and that is something I want everyone to be able to experience.
